Why can’t I get ground coffee?

Simply put, ground coffee is staling coffee. You may be thinking, “Well I’ve always drank pre-ground and it tastes like coffee to me.” While it’s true that pre-ground coffee is not necessarily completely staled coffee, it has certainly been staling. And the difference can be dramatic even hours after being ground*. In other words, you’re not experiencing all that coffee had to offer. And we just can’t bring ourselves to tell you that the coffee we craft with passion is exceptional and then turn around and send it to you stale. That’s not nice!

I drink decaf. Is there no coffee for me?

There’s plenty of coffee out there for you! Just not from us. Maybe we need roasting lessons, but we haven’t been able to successfully craft a decaf that has the character of the rest of our coffees. We recommend seeking out one that used the Swiss Water Process to decaffeinate the seeds.

Do you offer single-origin coffee?

Ooh - so glad you asked!

We often do offer single-origin coffees, but don’t promote it as such. Maybe we should, but we feel that that distinction in and of itself does not guarantee a stellar cup of coffee. All it technically means is that it’s traceable to a given source. We certainly don’t want to devalue what that can mean (which is why we provide that information and more), but “single-origin” is now too often used as a catch-all phrase to sell coffee. What makes a truly distinct single-origin coffee distinct has to do with all the beautiful particulars of its terroir.

Sometimes we will feature a single-origin as our Bright or Daily Drinker if it has that character on its own. Sometimes we will blend to get the character we are looking for. But when we blend, we generally do it post-roast. It’s like having a collection of single-origins in one cup because each coffee got the single-origin treatment.

*We should mention that there are times when certain roasts seem to benefit from a little resting after being ground, but we’re still talking within a half a day or so. And it’s probably ok to grind ahead of time if you find it more convenient… It’s ok, but not best :)
